The Grapevine Grains Blog!
29 January 2012
January has been a fantastic month for Grapevine Grains and we are excited for the coming months. In
this blog I want to talk a bit about "why buy local". Buying local is really a win, win for everyone involved.
Local companies and farms become more productive and you benefit from the freshest possible food.
One, you know where your food comes from, and in these days where large corporate farms, chicken and
cattle yards are a bit on the suspect side, that's important. The quality of the food is easier to guarantee,
mainly because you can more easily visit some of the local farms in the area. Two, buying local means your
food hasn't traveled a long way. Why is that important? The closer your food, the fresher it is. When
your food has to travel from the far reaching areas of the U.S., or the world, it is picked before it's ripe
which means less taste and more waste. Fresh is always best! And finally, it is a great benefit to the local
farms and businesses right here in the great state of Texas. As a local small company we appreciate your
support of what we do to bring the freshest, and best product to you. We work hard to make sure every
ingredient is from a  quality farm. We are proud of our handcrafted product and love bringing the
goodness of whole grains to your table. For us, its always been from the mill to the oven to your
doorstep!

14 January 2012
The new year has started off with a bang. We have expanded with 2 new accounts and there are more on
the way. If you are in North Richland Hills, stop by Roots Coffee House (
http://rootscoffeehouse.com/)
where you can buy a cup of our "instant" oatmeal and granola with a great cup of coffee! We are also
going to be a part of a new co-op called Greenling at the end of the month. You can find out all about
them at
http://www.greenling.com/. They are starting up a branch here in the DFW area. Today we went
back to the markets at Coppell and a new Richardson location market with Four Seasons. Both went very
well and we are looking forward to a great year ahead. We hope your new year is going as great as ours.
So.... here's to a fantastic 2012!!

29 December 2011
We're looking forward to a great New Year ! Coppell and White Rock Lake Farmers Markets will continue to
be our two main markets, and every other week at the Four Seasons Market in Richardson. We're also
looking at possibly expanding to the Rockwall market. Expanding into local area stores is also in our
plans. Many people have asked us if we will be at one the big stores such as: Central Market or Whole
Foods, but we are concerned about keeping our product locally produced, and handcrafted in small
batches. We want to avoid "mass producing" our product. We also always want to maintain a close,
personal relationship with our customers, and be able to tell them that we make the product ourselves.
Dialogue, education, and the freshest, healthiest product, for our customers, is still the main reason we
started the company, and continue it.

12 December 2011
Most local area Farmers Markets in Dallas are now closed for the season. Coppell will be opening in January
on the 14th and 28th. A big thank you all our customers this year ! It's very encouraging to see a big
change in healthy food awareness, and so many people wanting to buy local. When we started 3 years
ago, we would hear "your products are too healthy for me", many times ! Now instead people are saying:
"we're trying to eat healthier", and a dialogue opens up discussing healthy food options. And, even if they
decide not to buy from us, they walk away with a desire to start changing their diet, and lifestyle.

21 November 2011
As I get ready for a Thanksgiving (much needed) vacation I have the opportunity to stop and count my
blessings.  We at Grapevine Grains have been truly blessed this year - our business it taking off, we have
fabulous customers, and we are having a great time bringing good food to people.  As I look back over
the last 2 1/2 years, I am amazed at how much we have grown, from the little company just making
granola, to the still little (but growing) company with so many more products and great things to offer
folks.  We are excited about the coming year and look forward to continuing to bring everyone fantastic
whole grain products to your table.  Look for us in December at Fredricksbug's annual St. Nickolus show
on Dec. 3rd and 4th, at the special Christmas markets at Coppell and White Rock Lake on Dec. 10th and
at the Grapevine Library for their fund raiser on Dec. 10th and 11th.  We will have all our holiday treats
there including Santa Snack Baskets, Lone Star Hat Baskets, Gift boxes, Cherry Chocolate Granola,
Holiday Muesli and Holiday Pancake Mix just to name a few.  So, as always, See you at the market!

8 November 2011
So far this has been a GREAT month!  At the end of October we went to Boerne TX  for the Texas
Chocolate show and took our fantastic chocolate granolas with us.  It was a wonderful success and
everyone had a great time.  The next Thursday we participated in the Dallas Farmer's Market annual
hoedown at fair park.  We enjoyed being a part of all the great food they had there.  (By the way, it is an
event worth going to as you really get a wonderful taste of the Dallas area's food and some fantastic
Texas wines and spirits!).  Right now we are gearing up for the holiday season.  Our
gift baskets are
great this year - check them out.  My favorite is the fun Santa Snack Basket with a cookie mix to make
with the kids, some "reindeer"oats (fresh rolled of course!) some gourmet hot chocolate mix and some
snack packs for Santa to take along with him!  There are several more that you can order for friends or
for your office gifts.  Our big show this year will be in Fredricksburg at the annual St. Nickolus show on
December 3rd and 4th.  It will be a wonderful German style Christmas market so come on down and
enjoy!  We at Grapevine Grains hope you have a wonderful holiday season and are glad to be a part of it!

24 October 2011
The Pecan Jam in San Saba was a great event!!  They are already planning a 2nd annual - Oct. 27 2012.
If you've never been in that area of Texas it is well worth the trip - for the great pecans alone.  We were
able to meet many of the people who actually grow the pecans we use at Grapevine Grains and do they
love there pecans!  Our special product - Pecan Pancakes - was a huge hit!  The kids event at Coppell was
a success - we sold out of all our special kids granola and, hopefully, the kids learned something from our
grain family about the goodness of eating whole grains.  You will be seeing our new characters more as
we begin to develop a special kids line of whole grain goodies.

This coming weekend we will be heading south to Boerne TX for the Chocolate Festival.  We are bringing
back our wonderful Cherry Chocolate Chip and Dark Chocolate Cranberry granolas.  We will also feature
some Chocolate Chip Pancake mix and, of course, our great Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie mix.  We will
also be at Coppell this weekend so look for us there.

19 October 2011
This coming Saturday we will be introducing the beginning of a kids line with our new children's whole
grain characters - Suzy Spelt, Oliver Oat, Willy Wheat and Betty Barley.  Our desire is to introduce
children to whole grains in a fun and educational way so they can learn to eat better and fight inactivity
and obesity.  We have  a real problem in this country with more and more children who are overweight
and developing diseases like diabetes.  Most of this is avoidable if we can teach our children to eat right
and exercise.  Just eliminating processed foods out of our children's diets will go a long way to helping
them live healthier lives.  Look for our new kids granola at the Coppell market with the great introductory
price of just 50 cents!  See you at the market!

14 October 2011
October has been a busy month for us and it isn't going to slow down.  We are happy to say that we are
now a part of the Coppell Farmer's Market!!  If you haven't been to this market it is worth checking out.
There are lots of wonderful vendors and next week (the 22nd) will be Kids Day at the market.  We will
have some .50 cent packets of granola with nutrition info for them.

We are also gearing up for some special shows taking place around Texas.  The San Saba Pecan Jam is
coming up on the 22nd.  It should be a great time and we are going to have all our pecan specials there
including Lone Star Muesli, Pecan granola and our special Pecan Cinnamon granola!  Then on the 29th we
will be in Boerne Texas for their Chocolate Festival.  It's worth the drive down there just for the chocolate
alone!  And yes, we are doing some special chocolate granola - Cherry Chocolate and Dark Chocolate
covered Cranberry granolas.  We also have some wonderful hot chocolate mix in our special chocolate
festival baskets (which can be ordered by the way!).  Check it all out on the
gift section of our web site.

Well, gotta go and make more granola and roll some fresh oats for the market.  So as always - we'll see
you at the market!!

27 September 2011
A lot has happened since the last blog entry!  We are going to get better at updating this thing :0) In the
middle of August we were able to go on vacation to Utah - where it was a LOT cooler!!  Yes, while it was
still over 100 here, we enjoyed 85 degrees during the day and 56 at night!  But all good things had to
come to an end and we landed back in TX on a 107 day.  Talk about the pendulum swinging.  Speaking of
swinging - we had to get back into the swing of things after 10 days of relaxation and start cooking and
going to markets again.

September has been a great month.  We are now in a new store - the North Richland Hills farmer's
market on Davis Hwy and it has been the month for developing a few new products.  We now have a
fantastic 4 grain pancake mix made from wheat, spelt, barley and millet.  It has a wonderful wholesome
taste and will take you all the way through to lunch!  We also brought out a great fall granola with our
Apple Cranberry flavor.  Look for it at the markets now.

Our White Rock Lake market continues to be a huge success!  Last week we just about sold out of
everything - only bringing back 5 granolas - we will be bringing more next time for those folks!  If you
haven't been to that market, come on out and enjoy the great weather and fun.  We are also at a great
market in Richardson - wonderful neighborhood and atmosphere.  Worth going to as it has a lot of
wonderful variety in vendors.

Coming in October is our new flavor of the month - Pecan is back!  It's that season again and we love our
pecan granola.  We will be featuring it at the San Saba pecan festival on October 22nd.  The next
weekend (October 29th) we will be at the Boerne chocolate festival and featuring our Dark Chocolate
Cranberry granola and Cherry Chocolate granola - you can't go wrong with either of these flavors!

1 August 2011
A big thank you to the Coppell special summer market this past weekend. It was a huge success! Our new
gluten free pancake and corn muffin mixes sold out in the first 30 minutes! We are currently on the
waiting list to be at the Coppell Farmers Market every week. Hopefully a spot will open up for us before
next year. Please tell them you want us there sooner!

Our granola August flavor of the month is:
Raspberry, and it's fantastic.

We love the Frisco Farmers Market, and we hope to be there every weekend going forward. Make sure and
check out the home page for information on markets for the weekend!

Unfortunately, we have decided to stop going to the Grapevine Farmers Market on Thursdays for the
entire month of August. Part of the reason that we are there is for our fund raiser involving the special
needs young adults at Champion Services. Due to the excessive heat advisories they can only be out
there until 11:30. We will return on Thursdays, beginning September 1st. Let's hope for some rain, and
cooler temperatures by then!

20 July 2011
We are now at the Frisco Farmer's Market, on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th (July only) Saturdays. Our first time
there, on July 16th, was a huge success ! Our next time there will be: July 30th. We also are introducing
our 2nd Gluten Free Mix this weekend. It's a naturally Gluten Free Organic Buckwheat and Millet Pancake
Mix. Our Gluten Free Cornbread Mix sold out this past weekend. The combination of: Organic Yellow Corn,
Quinoa, and Millet, tastes fantastic.

We're also really looking forward to going back to the Coppell Farmer's Market, for their special "Sizzl'n at
the Market day" on July 30th. (There's a link on our Main Page for info). We're still on their waiting list to
be there every Saturday. I've read that they're expanding the number of vendor sites, so let's keep our
fingers crossed, that a space will open up for us soon. Coppell is a fantastic market, and it's very close to
our hometown of Grapevine.

We are also now using Fair Trade Organic California raisins ! These are the best tasting raisins we have
ever purchased. They're in selected granolas, muesli, and Texas Trail Mix.

10 July 2011
Well, it's sure been a hot summer so far in Texas ! We're expanded into more stores, we're up to 7
locations now. See our home page for all the details. Our July granola flavor of the month is: Blueberry
Cherry, and it's been so popular, that we have sold out at White Rock, Keller, and Richardson Farmer's
Markets. We also have introduced a naturally Gluten Free Corn Bread Mix. It's made with fresh ground
Organic Sweet Corn, Millet, and Quinoa. We submitted our vendor application to the Frisco Farmer's
Market, and we hope to be there soon !

After a long search, we have finally secured a supply source for Organic Oats ! Starting this week, all our
fresh rolled oats, will be organic. And, after we use our remaining supply of conventional oats (about 200
lbs), all our granola, and muesli, will also contain Organic Oats. It's not easy finding a reliable, steady
supply of organic grains, seeds, and dried fruit.

15 June 2011
It's been busy - as you can see from the long delay between blogs!!  Hope some of you are still even
reading about us here :0)  We have had a wonderful farmer's market season so far.  We've introduced
several new products - "instant" oatmeals, flavors of the month, hulless barley spelt chia pancake mix,
spelt teff pancake mix, and now:  Sprout packs!  That's right, Grapevine Grains is doing sprouts - actually
you will be doing the sprouts, we just provide the wonderful seed mixes for you.  You can start off with
the Basic Salad Mix and then move on to the Tuscany, Parisian, Siberian and Hot and Spicy mixes.  Each
mix has a wonderful array of seeds that spout into fantastic tasting (and good for you) well, sprouts!
It's fun for the whole family as you watch the seeds literally come to life.  It's as easy as soaking in water
and rinsing for a couple of days.  Your salads will never taste the same!!  So come on out to the market
and start off with your seed kit and then do some sprouting.

26 March 2011
What a great month of markets.  We are now in full swing cooking everyday for our farmer's markets.
You can find us each Saturday in the downtown Dallas Farmer's market inside Shed 2.   In the summer
it's going to be GREAT to be inside.   On the 2nd and 4th Saturday's we are at the White Rock Lake
market located near the Green Spot.  We have also introduced several new products this month with our
"instant" oatmeals (we have 4 fantastic flavors:  Cranberry Apple, Cinnamon Apple, Pecan Cinnamon and
Wild Blueberry - all are made with our famous fresh rolled oats) and our Spelt Pancake mix.  We have also
introduced several new grains and fresh stone ground flours to our line-up:  corn meal and whole wheat
flour.  So, what do you look forward to in April?  Our new flavor of the month is Cherry Vanilla and we will
be bringing out Ezekiel bread rolls to the market at some point in the month.  We are going to be
bringing out some unsweetened varieties of our new and successful "instant" oatmeal and stone ground
spelt flour and quinoa.  Also coming up are our markets in Keller and Grapevine.  Look for dates in our
Upcoming Events on the home page.  See you at the market!

30 January 2011
This past week we spent some great time in the Houston area doing 2 shows - The Taste of the Town in
The Woodlands and the Katy Home and Garden show in Katy!  We have also been very busy developing
some great new products that we will unveil in the month of Feb.  We had several wonderful test tasters
for our "instant" oatmeal (THANKS!!) and have finally computed all the data to make the best "instant"
oatmeal in Texas!  Our flavors will be Cinnamon Apple, Pecan Cinnamon, Cranberry Apple and, coming in
April, Blueberry.  We are also coming out with our Artesian Ezekiel Bread and bread mix.  We also have
some new products coming in the future, which are in the developing stages right now:  A Barley Oat
granola line and a millet/quinoa granola.  Look for more information on that in the near future.

12 January 2011
Well it's the new year and Grapevine Grains is going strong!  We look forward to continuing to bring you
the best and freshest products out there!    The new products we are developing: 1.  "instant" oatmeal
and Ezekiel bread.  Our "instant" oatmeal is made from fresh rolled oats so they are going to taste
fantastic.  We will have 4 great flavors to offer - Cinnamon Apple, Cranberry Apple, Pumpkin Spice and
Cinnamon Pecan.  All are made from our great fresh ingredients and they cook up in only 1 min. 45 sec.!!
2. We are also in the process of developing our Ezekiel bread.  We grind all the wonderful ingredients
fresh and bake it up artesian style.  The flavor is not to be missed!  We will keep you posted on when and
where you can get these new products.  In the meantime, enjoy our great granolas, muesli's and fresh
milled products.  Remember - we are always - from the mill to the oven to your doorstep!

16 December 2010
2010 has been a very fun, and successful year for Grapevine Grains ! The business lost money the first 1
1/2 years, but going into our 2nd year will show a profit ! Our products are selling well at: The Main Street
Station store in downtown Grapevine. We also are not offering our very popular Fresh Rolled Oats. In fact
I want to start using the slogan: "Home of the Fresh Rolled Oats". We still have the great Grapevine
Grains Gift Boxes, for Christmas. They contain 3 - Granola, Muesli, or Texas Trail Mix, along with a Texas
Theme Christmas Tree Ornament, and a selection of teas.

24 September 2010
We've just returned from a long trip that took us from Texas to Iowa, Chicago, Oklahoma and back
again!  On the way we picked up an electric oat roller - a very time saving device that has already made
our lives better!! - along with our honey run.  We are now back and ready for a fantastic October.  We
are ready to make our pecan granola and an all new muesli - Lone Star Muesli.  It will of course have some
good ole Texas pecans in it straight from the great pecan trees of Comanche!  Also be on the look out for
all things pumpkin - muffins, cookies and pie will be on the Grapevine Grains menu for the month.  Hope
to see you there - and remember - eat your whole grains for a more healthier you!

9 September 2010
Things are really going great in September!  It's Hatch Chili month here at the Grapevine Market and
we have had some great items for the spicier side of life.  The Hatch Chili granola has been a lot of fun -
not too spicy, but just enough to notice, and our Hatch Chili Corn muffins have been fantastic - they are
a bit on the hotter side!  We will have the Hatch Chili granola for one more week but the Corn Muffins will
last throughout the month.
Grapevine Grains will be going on the road again!  We are heading to Oklahoma to pick up some more of
our wonderful honey, and to Iowa where we get our fantastic mills. One thing - it will be a LOT cooler than
Texas at this time of year!  Looking forward to weather in the 70's.  We will tell you more when we get
back.  Until then - stay healthy and remember that eating your whole grains is a good for you thing!
